The Cost of Getting Solar
The total cost of a San Diego Residential Solar System depends on many factors:
- Type of Solar System (Photovoltaic, Water Heater, or Pool Heater)
- How many panels you need
- Installation method (Flush or Tilt-Up mounting, Ground Mount, Tile vs. Shingle Roof)
- Manufacturer of Solar System
- Equipment, Labor and Permits necessary
Only a HelioNation-Approved Solar Installer can give you an accurate quote with a Free In-Home Estimate.
How many Solar Panels do I need?
- The average Solar Electric system is 4 kilowatts or 4,000 watts. Since solar panels range from around 165 to 230 watts, the average Solar Electric System will have approximately 20 Solar Panels.
- The number of Solar Panels needed depends on how much energy you are using. It is possible that your Solar System can produce enough power to reduce your YEARLY electric bill to $0.00.
- In California and in most other states, the electric utility is not required to pay you if your solar electric system produces more power than you consume in a year. In October 2009 California passed a Feed-In Tariff law (AB920), but it will not take effect until 2011.
- There is no incentive to install more Solar Panels than are necessary to completely eliminate your electric bill.
- Once you provide your yearly electric usage to your HelioNation-Approved San Diego Solar Installer, he or she can very accurately estimate how many Solar Panels you will need.
I Want a Solar System, but I Have a Limited Budget
- No problem!! You do not need to eliminate your entire electric bill to reap the benefits of Going Solar. A smaller Solar Electric System may be more cost effective and you can always build on your new system with careful planning of roof space and inverter size.
- Most utilities charge rates that increase in tiers. The more electricity you use, the more expensive it is. By installing a system that only generates 50% of your energy needs, you can still save 60-70% of your electric bill by eliminating the most expensive energy tiers.
